Membership is valid for one year from the day it is purchased.

Once you become a member you will gain access to the online listings for instant and easy access to all the Hosts.  Accessing the online listings is the only way to receive complete up-to-date listings and a look at the full Host profile including pictures, map locations, and other WWOOFer comments.
You also will have access to the on-line FORUM (in preparation) where you can interact with other WWOOF members; look for travelling companions, share experiences, and more.

The coordinators of WWOOF are available to help you via phone +34 942 63 69 58 but preferably by email. We are continually developing the website and other resources to provide you with Tips and one-on-one assistance where needed, to help you get the best out of your WWOOF experience. We encourage your feedback and input to help the WWOOF program retain its integrity and spirit.

To WWOOF in Spain you must be at least 18.  A person younger than the age of majority is considered a "minor child"  which means that hosts would be legally responsible for anything that happens to you on their property.  Many of our hosts are not willing to take on the extra responsibility that this entails.  If you are under 18 then you must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and MUST carry a signed copy of a 'Parental Consent form' as applicable.  WWOOF Spain is firm on this policy.

An option may be to travel with someone that can act as your legal guardian and take responsibility for you while you are on a host farm.  Here is a sample letter from which you could have your parents write similar in order to assign temporary legal guardianship to your travel companion who is of legal age ->   Writing_a_temporary_guardianship_letter.pdf   A letter following these guidelines should be completed, printed out, and signed by your parents or legal guardians.  Once signed a copy is to be scanned and emailed to the WWOOF Spain  office (please Contact Us), and one signed copy to be carried with you to show to hosts.

You would need to ask hosts directly if they are willing to accept you under these conditions.  You must become a member to contact hosts.  WWOOF Spain  can offer no guarantees for your success.

There is no upper age limit for WWOOFing in Spain , so you could do it if you were 100 if you are up to the physical demands required.

Providing you are fit and well enough to work for 4-6 hours per day – there is no upper age limit for WWOOFing. Many farmers welcome the maturity older WWOOFers bring. We would however recommend that you tell your host in advance about any physical limitation you may have.

As a member with WWOOF Spain you will receive a one year (from the date of subscription), for a cost of 20€ for a single account, or 36€ for a Joint account (Couple or 2 Friends or Parent(s) & Child (or children) WWOOFing together ). Once your payment has been processed, you will have full access to this site, including Host listings, access to the Forum, and the opportunity to personalize your own Profile so that you may be known in this online community.

We can accept common credit cards. Payments are processes via Stripe (not directly in our website).

Membership is valid for one year from the date of subscription.

NO, YOU DO NOT NEED A WORKING VISA. You are volunteering, not working! You could be volunteering over many months at many different WWOOF hosts. However, depending on your nationality you may require some kind of visa. We cannot help about that.

- They should show up when expected.

The Hosts rely on your arrival and have probably refused other WWOOFers to offer you a place at home. Please let them know as soon as possible if your plans have changed. If you do not, your Host you may write a negative comment on your profile and forums, which means that your ability to find a Host in the future could be affected.

- They adjust to the lifestyle of the Hosts.

- They participate and show interest in agriculture and organic gardening.

- They help for the amount of time needed.

- They help with everyday tasks (like making meals and cleaning).

- They do not create more work for the Hosts.

- They are responsible and respectful.

- If a Host requests a WWOOFer to leave sooner than expected, it is the WWOOFer's responsibility to do so. A WWOOFer may also choose to leave earlier than expected if the situation is not what he had imagined. Please tell your Host if you wish to leave early, and explain why.

- Basic accommodation and food. Before arrival, be clear about exactly what accommodations are available, as this varies greatly from host to host. If you have special dietary requirements (i.e. vegetarian, vegan, etc.) or specific allergies (i.e. to animals or weeds), check with your host that this is alright before you go.

- Host should work with WWOOFers at times and teach about organic farming. It is likely that you will have to work on your own a fair amount of the time. Many of the tasks may be mundane, but a lot of agricultural work is. Once again, check with hosts about what projects are available before going and throughout your visit.

– If for some reason the situation is not working for you, discuss it with your hosts and if a solution cannot be reached, you are under no obligation to stay. Any feedback to us would be appreciated.

That’s no problem and we understand that when you are travelling, your plans do change. All we ask is that if you make arrangements with a farm host and if they change for any reason, please be courteous and let them know with as much advance notice as possible.

This is one of the most frequent complaints we receive from hosts – that WWOOFers do not tell them if they change their plans. PLEASE let them know !! Hosts make arrangements to buy extra food and could travel great distances to pick you up, all at extra time and expense. Also, they likely have turned other WWOOFers away to make room for you, and are depending on the extra help.

WWOOF is not just volunteering it is an exchange - your help in exchange for food, accommodation and a place with the WWOOF family - and much more in terms of sharing knowledge and friendship. WWOOF is not a contract but when a Host agrees to take a WWOOFer they trust that there will be some level of commitment in return. Just as you expect to have a place when you arrive at a WWOOF Hosts. Please consider how you would feel if a host had committed to you and shortly before you are set to arrive, they cancel. How much notice would you wish to receive?

You are responsible for your own Travel insurance.
WWOOF ESPAÑA provide insurance (included in the fee) against accident while helping inside the farm, but is minimal and does not cover anything that is not direct consequence of an accident.
The insurance for WWOOFERS registered on the WWOOF ESPAÑA website covers those accidents or illnesses (as well as death) that occur as a direct consequence of an accident that occurred during the stay on the farm. However, you will not be insured when you are away from the farm or even in the case of appendicitis (since it does not occur as a result of an accident). The amount of money insured is limited: between 3.000 and 6.000 euros of maximum compensation. This a legal requirement that WWOOF ESPAÑA accomplishes.
If you suffer an injury, ask the responsible person on the farm for help and go to any medical center.
The farm or yourself can contact us directly; you do not need to do anything special, since you are already registered with us in our insurance policy.

No. A WWOOF membership is not transferable and each WWOOF organization is separate and independent from one another.  This provides the expert knowledge in each organization who is familiar with their own country and can better help their WWOOF members.

A lot of the Hosts welcome children, especially if they have children themselves. To find kid friendly Hosts go to the page Find A Host then click on the option "Accept WWOOFers with children”.

Always check with the host first, and if you have young children who need a lot of your attention, please discuss this with your host. Farms can be dangerous places, and accommodation can be limited- parents should be willing to take total responsibility for the safety of their children.

No!  You are volunteering through WWOOF Spain in any of our collaborating farms. But any member who joins WWOOF will not be receiving any salary or daily allowances.
Besides being illegal, receiving payment for work done on a volunteer exchange jeopardizes the host and the entire WWOOF program as stringent laws must be followed when hiring an “employee”. Do not pressure Hosts for payment. If you wish payment then you must find a job.

It is expected you help 4 to 6 hours per day (or 20 - 30 hrs per week), but time should not be a measure of any volunteering action. Certainly looking at the watch all the time would be a bad signal!

This is a good question to ask your host(s). Some things that may be needed could include: clothes & sturdy shoes or boots that you don't mind getting dirty, and consider clothes for all weather from cool to hot, work gloves, ear and eye protection in case you are working with tools or machinery.

WWOOF has been done in Spain for over 30 years. Many of our hosts have been members for many, many years.

WWOOF is a self-moderating community. That means that all members contribute to the community's safety by reporting problems and concerns. If warranted, Hosts are removed from the program immediately for proven cases of breach of safety or security, and after 3 complaints for verified concerns of poor conditions, over-work, etc.
WWOOF does not know personally and does not have the resources to visit all the hosts in our listings - we only give you the means to make the initial contact. Make sure you travel safely. Anyway, if you feel you are in trouble, let us know, we are here to help.

When arranging to visit a WWOOF host, take all the precautions you would take when visiting someone you do not know.

If you are traveling alone, here's some helpful advice:

• Keep in touch with family or friends so someone knows where you will be and what dates you expect to be there.

• Make sure you can leave a farm easily if things don't work out.

• Prepare your mind, your attitudes and knowledge about yourself and the cultures to which you are going. Know your own level of awareness, your ability to assess situations and take appropriate action at the right time.

• In choosing a WWOOF farm, read the listings carefully. You will see in the additional information provided about each host that they state whether they are a family, community or single person; and whether they are in an isolated location or near other houses. These are points you need to consider if you are traveling alone.

• When you are negotiating your visit with the host, feel free to ask about accommodation. Obviously, it's a little over the top to ask: 'Is there a bolt on the door?' But ask if you'll be in your own room or in a dormitory space. If the accommodation is a caravan, will it be shared?

• Trust your intuition! If you feel uncomfortable for any reason, do not stay in that situation. Make sensible, calm (but firm) plans to leave as soon as you can.

The positive experience of traveling alone will usually far outweigh any problems but, obviously, we want to know of any negative situations so we can take action.

WWOOF Spain is a small organization, and unable to screen all host and volunteer applications. You are strongly encouraged to do your own background and reference checks prior to entering into any situation with strangers. There are many resources (some are free) on the internet to help investigate strangers.  As with all WWOOF arrangements, be sure to have clear and open communication between all parties before finalizing arrangements.  WWOOFing is an amazing opportunity to make new friends, but please take safety issues seriously and contact us immediately if you have any safety issues.

Please also use the online comments, ratings, and forums to share your experiences with other members. If there is a problem with a profile not being accurate or up to date, encourage the host or member to modify their profile, or let us know and we’ll get in touch with them. If you think a host or member is not appropriate for WWOOF, please let us know. We rely on member and host feedback to strengthen the WWOOF community.

If you are traveling to Spain as a foreign national, please be aware that WWOOF Spain cannot help you obtain a visa. It may benefit you to secure your visa first, and then join WWOOF Spain.

Most WWOOFers enter Spain using a tourist visa; however, it is your responsibility to determine the correct visa for your visit.  Please keep in mind that WWOOF is NOT paid work. WWOOFing is an educational experience, and WWOOF members are guests of their hosts.  Most international WWOOFers communicate their intentions to visit Spain to immigration officials and enter without any problems. However, if you say that you are coming to “work on a farm” and you don’t have a work visa, immigration probably WILL NOT LET YOU ENTER Spain. Additionally, please note as a WWOOFer, you are a TOURIST, NOT a WORKER. Please understand the laws and clearly communicate your intentions when you enter the country.  Please read the Visa Information page thoroughly.  WWOOF Spain is not responsible for any problems you may experience with immigration.

WWOOFing in Spain is substantially different depending on location, crops, seasons, particular situation of the host, etc.
Because of this, usually is possible to WWOOF all year around, but it is your task to discover and check (communicating with the hosts) who admit wwoofers during certain periods of the year.

Most hosts have Internet Access but some hosts live in remote areas and have limited or no Internet Access.  In this case Hosts typically visit a  local Internet Cafe or Library periodically to access a computer.  Think of this as an opportunity to live free of all encumbrances and immerse yourself in a new culture and experience.

WWOOFing exchanges do not allow for money to change hands, but sometimes hosts in poorer countries still ask for money to cover food costs, or other expenses related to your stay.

If this happens you must tell the administrators of the organisation. Then, either find a different host, or refuse the request and offer some other way to compensate them. For example you could agree to go to the local market and buy some food or donate clothes, shoes, books or other useful items. Your choice will depend on the circumstances you find yourself in and what the host will agree to.

Please email contact us if you are concerned or unsure of what to do.

- A great attitude, flexibility, and a sense of adventure.
– Travel insurance and maybe extra medical insurance (even if membership includes basic accident insurance).
- Transportation to and from the host property, unless otherwise arranged with a host.
- Travel funds to and from the host, and extra spending money.
– Appropriate attire – boots, farming clothes, sun protection, hat, etc.  Ask your host about any other suggestions.
– Identification such as passport or license.
– Ask hosts about any specific items you may need for your visit with them.

It is our policy to welcome reports of problems or concerns and look upon them as an opportunity to learn, adapt and improve. This policy is intended to ensure that reports are dealt with properly and that all reports of problems or concerns or comments by members are taken seriously.
Information reported is considered confidential and is only available to the National WWOOF Coordinator.

No, yet you do need to bring a willingness to learn, laugh and try your best. The hosts will guide you to appropriate helping experiences.

When logged in as a WWOOF Spain  wwoofer, you have access to advanced search functions such as filters and key word searches, along with complete host profiles including messaging tools, and comments and ratings from previous WWOOFers.

The length of time that you may stay on each farm varies, some invite you to stay a minimum of 2 weeks, whereas others do not specify a time period at all. Discuss it with your host. Many go for 1-3 weeks then move on to another farm, thus gaining an interesting variety of experiences. Some stay much longer – because they like it there!!

We recommend you plan your WWOOF travels as much in advance as possible.  Many Hosts prefer to book months, at least weeks in advance.  When you book early it is very important to keep in regular contact with your Host(s) to ensure there have been no change in plans, for either you or them, and to continue to confirm your expected arrival date.

Hosts make significant plans for your arrival (preparing accommodations, buying extra food, planning trips to town to pick you up), and often turn other WWOOFers away, because they have confirmed bookings.  Therefore it is very important that you are committed to the arrangements you make.  If some unforeseen circumstance arises where you cannot meet your commitment please contact the host with as much notice as possible.

Some hosts are able and willing to take WWOOFers on short notice so don't be afraid to inquire at last minute.

Usually we do not provide refunds as we incur in expenses and administrative charges as soon we process your application. If you think your case is very special, contact us, but is very rare we refund any case. We think our fee is reasonable.
Usually bank charges are high so let us not to make banks richer, is not better to support organic movement with your contribution?

Harassment based upon an individual’s sex, race, ethnicity, national origin, age, religion or any other legally protected characteristics will not be tolerated by WWOOF Spain. All members, including hosts and WWOOFers, are expected and required to abide by this policy. Any reports of harassment between a host and WWOOFer will be investigated by WWOOF Spain, and may be cause for membership being revoked.

WWOOF Spain does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion, gender, gender expression, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations. These activities include membership application and provision of member (host or WWOOFer) profiles. We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of WWOOF Spain, and require all hosts and WWOOFers to abide by this policy. Any reports of discrimination will be investigated by WWOOF Spain, and may be cause for membership being revoked.

Efficient communication between wwoofers and hosts is a key aspect we are trying to address in this website. Note this is an evolving topic and functionality so you can expect some changes in the future to improve and facilitate contact between users.

The recommended flow of communication should happen in this order:

The Wwoofer finds and selects a host to communicate using Find a Host link on main menu at top.

When the wwoofer wishes to contact the Host then opens up the Host record and use the Request Visit  button (under the name of the Host). In the next screen it must select arrival and departure dates in the calendar (or check "Dates are flexible" if you are not yet sure), write some words for clarification and do not forget to press the green button: Send Request

The host receives the request and inside the website, in the Host Request Tab, he/she will find the particular request (there are 2 sections for Pending and Accepted). Clicking on the request, it will see a new screen with two buttons: Accept Request or Decline Request. The host has to Accept or Decline, write a reply and clic on green Send Message button down below. If the host does not answer the Request, after some days, he/she will receive automatic remainders to do so.

To facilitate management of Messages / Host Requests and keep your inbox tidy, there are a few features:

Filter to see those only Active or in Archive status by clicking the corresponding button.

Sort ascending or descending by clicking in column headers like: Last Updated, From, To, etc.

Please observe correct flow of communications to avoid confusion or dissapointment and set some coherence between everyone. Doing so it will help everyone to better organise as well as reduce notifications.

In WWOOF ESPAÑA you can be a wwoofer if you are over 18 years old (mayoría de edad).

For legal reasons we cannot accept volunteers under 18 years old. Personally we think is not very fair and we do not like this limitation, but we cannot help. If you travel with an adult over 18, we would request an explicit consent letter from your parents.

There is no upper limit for wwoofing, but note you have to be fit enough to develop considerable physical effort or tasks, depending on the necessities of the each particular farm or rural environment.

WWOOFer (visitor) Membership price is 20€ (single) or 36€ (joint) providing display of your profile on the WWOOFer Listings and access to online Host Listings for one year from date of purchase.

Host Membership price is 30 € providing display of your profile on the Host Listings and access to the website  for one year.

Each WWOOFer can contact a maximum of 10 new hosts per day.

In the past, hosts received a lot of impersonal "copy-paste" requests. This limit is in place to encourage WWOOFers to carefully select their hosts beforehand and to send them complete and personalized messages.

Please note this limit is only for sending new visit requests. There is no daily limit to responding to existing message threads.

Use the "Request Visit" found on the host Profile.  Put "WWOOF" in the subject line and then start by writing your name and ID /membership number. Ask the host if they can use your help and indicate when you would like to come using the Calendar. Once the host contacts you begin your interview with the host to ensure that they are the right match for you.

HOST'S QUESTIONS

WWOOF is an educational and cultural exchange program and hosts do not offer stipends or other monetary compensation to WWOOFers.

A Host membership is valid for one year from the date of registration.

Please read How WWOOF Works before registering your account.

Your WWOOF Spain Membership includes:

A one year membership allowing you to connect with our on-line list of WWOOFers (visitors) coming to Spain each year from all around the world to WWOOF (lend you a hand to learn about sustainable agriculture.)
A unique profile telling WWOOFers all about the opportunities you have to share with them.
     Support from Asociación WWOOF ESPAÑA.

There are two ways to bump your profile higher in the Find a Host listings.

1)  Update your Profile: go to Update My Profile from your User Menu and click the SAVE button.

2) Change your Current Availability status to "Need Help Urgently"

All Find a Host search results are sorted first with "Need Help Urgently" at the top, then with most recently updated profiles following.  So as before, you can bump yourself to the top of the list by editing and saving your profile.

Consider that WWOOFers are filtering the list and not looking at all hosts at once, so your opportunities for getting nearer the top of the list are greater if keeping your profile updated periodically, and when in need of WWOOFers.  Also your best opportunitites for being found on the list are to ensure your profile is 100% completed.

 CURRENT AVAILABILITY: A new feature!
 Policy

1)  "Need Help Urgently" is primarily used when you have had a cancellation or no-show and need to schedule in a WWOOFer ASAP.

 2)  We have advised that if Hosts are not hearing from WWOOFers they can also use the "Need Help Urgently" as this is also applicable if you need to make reservations with WWOOFers even if in the future.

3)  In both instances we ask Hosts to self limit their use to a maximum of 2 weeks, and to not use the status again until needed.

 4)  Staff will be monitoring use of "Need Help Urgently".

How to set your Current Availability to "Need help urgently".

1)  You do this from your Dashboard (where you land when you log in), from the Availability option on the menu to the left.

2)  At the top of that page change "Current Availability" option, scroll to bottom of page and Save.

You can change yours by following this link -> https://default.wwoof.net/user/availability

If you change yours to “Need help urgently” you will show at the top of the Find a Host page.

Also, you will show in the Featured Hosts section 1/2 way down on the Home page -> https://default.wwoof.net/user/availability

When using the "Need help urgently" status please be sure to change it back once you have all the WWOOFers you need for awhile, giving your fellow hosts equal opportunity, thank you.

New Filter criteria for "Current Availability" at the Find a Host page will help WWOOFers narrow down their search and connect with you.

Find a WWOOFer

You are welcome to wait for WWOOFers to contact you but if you like you can also contact WWOOFers yourself.

Browse the Find a WWOOFer list using the Sort and Filter options seen on the right side of the page.

If they appear to be a good fit, use the "Send Message" option found at the top of their profile page, or by using the Envelope icon on their preview card in the Find a WWOOFer list.  They will receive an email notification of your message.

Both your profile and the WWOOFer's profile will track all messages sent and received on the "My Messages" page.

Hosts and WWOOFers are able to use their email program to reply & manage messages.

**** The MAIN requirement of a WWOOF Host is that you are involved in organics in some way, either growing or producing organic products, and that you will engage your WWOOFers (visitors) in these activities in order to encourage organic growing and other sustainable living practices.****

The WWOOF standard for WWOOFers to lend a helping hand is between 20-30 hours per week.

WWOOFers (visitors) are usually unskilled in regards to farm labour.

The value of room and board provided by a Host can vary but warm, dry accommodations and quality meals are expected, preferably organic food which is often provided directly from the host gardens and farms?.

Besides room and board WWOOFers are given the opportunity for learning about sustainable agriculture - presumably the main reason they are there,? while lending a hand to their hosts in their day-to-day lives.

Also, WWOOF is a cultural exchange as WWOOFers are immersed in their host family's lives and community. Long lasting friendships are formed. Many WWOOFers go on to obtain and work land for themselves. Hosts visit WWOOFers, often in faraway countries, and WWOOFers come back to their hosts again and again to reconnect.

Each WWOOFing experience is unique and must be negotiated between Host and WWOOFer but no monetary exchange is allowed in the WWOOF program.  WWOOF is about education, sharing, and friendships.  Any exchange of money changes that relationship to an employer/employee relationship which then has requirements in regards to Labour laws and submissions to the government.  If those requirements are not met it places the entire WWOOF program in jeopardy.

WWOOF is about trust - trusting that Hosts and WWOOFers will treat each other fairly and respectably, and will enjoy the sharing and learning experience.  Neither Host or WWOOFer is obliged to continue a relationship that is making either feel disrepected or uncomfortable.

We encourage any problems or concerns to be reported to us where we can investigate in order to help resolve issues, offer recommendations for improving the WWOOF experience, or removing any members abusing the program.

With many prepaid cards, there's no owner name or billing address information nor is there a way to include that information on the card.  There’s only the card number and an amount.  PayPal can see the amount but, their security checks cannot confirm the card owner as there’s no name or address info.  When that happens, you are asked to use another funding source.  Prepaid Credit Cards seldom pass PayPal's stringent security measures.  Even if they do, and the payment is later refunded, they are required to send it back to the card - which can be a problem for you if you have since discarded the card.

WWOOFers sign an agreement to say that they will take out additional insurance to cover travel and medical but WWOOF has no way of ensuring that this commitment is fulfilled.

-- If you have concerns about insurance, make it clear to WWOOFers that you will only accept them if they have additional insurance to cover travel and medical.  Ask to see proof of this insurance when they arrive. If they have no insurance, they can get proper cover in less than 24 hours. Refer them to this page on the WWOOF website for full details on Travel Insurance

-- Alternatively, take out an insurance policy yourself that covers volunteers helping on your property. You may find that your existing insurance is already enough. Talk to your insurer. If you are a commercial operation talk to your local branch of the Workman’s Compensation Board (or WorkSafe).

Even if you or the WWOOFer has adequate insurance, use common sense in what you ask a WWOOFer to do:

Never ask a WWOOFer to perform dangerous tasks, such as working with certain types of machinery.

Make sure tools are in good working order.

Always spend time ‘training’ the WWOOFer in the task.

Always make sure the WWOOFer is competent to do the task you have set them.

Always give the WWOOFer the freedom to say 'no' if they don't feel comfortable with a particular task.

Always work alongside the WWOOFer, at least to begin with, so that you can be sure they are working safely.

You login to your online account on this site and do a search for your WWOOFer. The instructions are seen in the next paragraphs. If you are having difficulty you can call or email us to verify your WWOOFer for you. Click here for our contact information.

Using the "Search Content, or Lookup WWOOFers & Hosts:" box you can search for your WWOOFer's name or their User ID#. The search results will show 3 tabs: 1) Location, 2) Content and 3) Users. To view the WWOOFers profile, click on the Users tab, then click on the WWOOFers name if seen in the list.  This will open up their profile for viewing.

If their name is not seen in the list try searching with a different criteria. (e.g. try last name only) Tip: The easiest search criteria is their User ID#. Please ask your WWOOFers for this number.

Once you find the WWOOFer's profile you must verify that they have an up-to-date subscription that has not expired. Click on their name in the Search Results list to open their profile. Look at the bottom of the profile for subscription information.

WWOOFers are guests in your home. As such they are usually happy to eat what you eat. If they want anything extra, or especially extravagant they should be prepared to buy it themselves. It's part of our responsibility as hosts to provide good wholesome food.

Hosts do well to find out in advance if a WWOOFer has any special dietary needs, then if we accept them we've obliged ourselves to respect those needs, however, you are under no obligation to provide everything they fancy. It is not the norm.

Hosts don't provide "takeaways" or junk food, we're not a restaurant.

When new WWOOFers come, explain to them what food is for general use and what is not as it is earmarked for meal planning, etc.

It's your kitchen, your home, take charge :)

Note the importance of using “Request Stay” by wwoofers and the subsequent reply by hosts via “My Host Requests” to efficiently set plans for everyone.

To facilitate management of Messages / Host Requests and keep your inbox tidy, there are a few features:

Possibility to mark them as read or unread.

Check individual requests status as Archive or Active.
